About

Peter Butler is a composer born in Colorado and currently based in Ithaca, NY. He graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2026, where he received the Donald Martino Award for Excellence in Composition. He was a winner of the 2026 NEC Honors Ensemble Competition, a semi-finalist for the 2024 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, and received a commission funded by the Juilliard School’s Kovner Fellowship Discovery Fund. While at NEC, he studied with Michael Gandolfi and Kati Agocs. 

From 2024-2026, he served as the co-director of Tuesday Night New Music, NEC's primary concert series for student works.  He is currently a student at Cornell Law School.
